other services offered - new breaker box help and more

As one of the fastest growing areas of DFW, Mansfield homes are just now aging to the point where they could use a little electrical TLC. That's where we come in. No matter what your needs, we can assist you and get your home working like new again!

Fuse problems? Older homes may have fuse boxes. These are not necessarily unsafe, but changing fuses is much more bothersome than flipping or pushing breakers. Installing a new service panel with circuit breakers in an old home may be worth the expense. A fuse blows for the same reason that a circuit breaker trips. Once blown, a fuse cannot be fixed; it must be replaced. So keep a supply of fuses handy!

Also - don't overload wires if you live in an older home in the Mansfield area! If you have a chronically overloaded circuit, you may be tempted to install a fuse or breaker with a larger capacity. Don't! It's dangerous. A 15-amp breaker or fuse is designed to trip or blow before a 14-gauge wire gets overheated. Installing the wrong-sized fuze or breaker allows wires to overheat, risking a fire.

What is a circuit breaker? A circuit breaker is basically a switch that trips when it senses heat. When a circuit overloads or wires short out, the circuit temperature rises and the breaker trips, shutting off power to its circuit and averting a dangerous situation. The breaker remains off until you reset it. Some breakers will display a red tab when they've blown. Others will turn partway into the OFF position.

Before resetting a breaker, search out and turn off or unplug the appliance that caused it to trip to begin with. Flip the breaker's switch off and then back on. On push-button breakers, push all the way in, then release. Power will be instantly restored to the circuit.
